Prof. Milomir Ninković, MD, PhD is an Austrian citizen born in 1957. in Sarajevo. A true expert and figurehead in his field of worldwide renown, Prof. Ninković has treated many high-profile patients and has received nothing but stellar reviews from patients and colleagues alike.
Milomir Ninković, MD, PhD earned his medical degree, specialized in general surgery, completed a residency in plastic surgery, and obtained a master’s degree from the University of Sarajevo’s Faculty of Medicine. As a scholarship holder who had the opportunity to learn microsurgical techniques and reconstructive philosophy from Marko Godina in Ljubljana, Prof. Ninković strove to advance Dr. Godina’s legacy by broadening the scope of reconstructive microsurgery and incorporating new applications related to functional free tissue transplantation.
During his residency, Prof. Ninković spent several months at various institutions in the United States. He then joined the Clinic for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Medical University of Innsbruck from September 1992 to November 2003. Here, he obtained his doctorate in November 1995 and was appointed associate professor in 1997. Throughout his tenure, Prof. Ninković gained significant recognition among international plastic surgery associations. In May 1997 he won the first prize for the best project at the Congress of the European Association of Plastic Surgeons (EURAPS) in Amsterdam and was also awarded the Theodor-Billroth Award from the Austrian Surgical Society.
In 1998, Prof. Ninković was honored with the City of Innsbruck award for the most successful scientific research at the Leopold-Franzens University in Innsbruck, Austria. That same year, he spent six months at Harvard, and was awarded a scholarship from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
This scholarship recognizes young plastic surgeons who, through their work and innovation, contribute significantly to global advancements in plastic and reconstructive surgery. In 2003, Prof. Ninković received the Marko Godina scholarship from the American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery and spent six months visiting top American universities and delivered the annual keynote lecture in January 2004 at the Congress for Reconstructive Microsurgery in Palm Springs.
From November 2003 to December 31, 2023, Prof. Ninković headed one of the largest plastic surgery departments in Germany, the Department for Plastic, Reconstructive, Hand and Burn Surgery at Bogenhausen Hospital, Klinikum München, part of the Technical University in Munich, Germany, employing 25 doctors and encompasses the full spectrum of plastic surgery services.
During his over 20-year career in plastic surgery, Dr. Ninkovic has significantly enhanced both clinical outcomes and scientific knowledge, while educating more than 80 residents. His unique expertise in the field of plastic, esthetic, and reconstructive surgery is evidenced by his extensive contributions to the field, including over 250 published articles, over 34 book chapters, and numerous lectures delivered around the globe.
