Internal Medicine Specialist and Cardiology Subspecialist, Head of the Scientific Unit for Medical Resarch
Professor Aleksandar Kibel, MD, PhD, a Croatian national, earned his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek in 2009. He serves as an associate professor in the Department of Physiology and Immunology at the Faculty of Medicine and the Department of Clinical Medicine at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health, both at the University of Osijek. Moreover, he holds a specialization in internal medicine and sub-specialization in cardiology.
From 2011 to 2024, he was employed at the Department of Internal Medicine of the Clinical Hospital Centre in Osijek, primarily specializing in cardiovascular diseases. In 2014, he earned his doctoral degree, concentrating on cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology. Over the years, he has actively engaged in both preclinical and clinical scientific research, undertaking research visits and training sessions abroad (including in Germany, Thailand, the USA, Spain, Cyprus, and Iceland), and actively participating in numerous international scientific and professional conferences. He instructs courses in Physiology, Pathophysiology, Clinical Propaedeutics, and Cardiology within the University’s Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate Study of Medicine in the German Language at the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek, and in 2023, he also served as the head of that study program.
He was awarded the TOP Scholarship for TOP Students, the Faculty Council Award for Outstanding Achievement, the Lions Club Award for the Best University Students, and other awards for activities at the Science Festival and Medic Day in Osijek. He is a native speaker of the German language and a fluent speaker of the English language.
With an extensive body of work, he has authored numerous scientific papers, many of which are indexed in prestigious international databases. Furthermore, he has contributed chapters to various books and assumes editorial responsibilities for professional and scientific publications, including one focused on the intricate workings of the renin-angiotensin system.
Actively involved in scholarly endeavors, he serves as a guest editor and reviewer for reputable journals like Oxidative Medicine & Cellular Longevity and Journal of International Medical Research, alongside his roles as a reviewer and editorial board member for other notable foreign publications such as ‘Frontiers in Physiology’.
Additionally, he mentors several graduates and five doctoral students attending the Biomedicine and Health postgraduate doctoral program, guiding them through their academic pursuits.
His leadership extends to the realm of scientific research, where he has led institutional projects like IP-8 at the Faculty of Medicine in Osijek and collaborated on various initiatives, including those supported by the Croatian Science Foundation. He has also taken charge of the MEFOS-2 research group within the Scientific Centre of Excellence (ZCI), focusing on personalized healthcare within the Scientific Unit for Research, Production, and Medical Testing of Functional Food.
Furthermore, he contributes his expertise as a member of the scientific board of the ZCI, showcasing his dedication to advancing knowledge and practices in both academia and healthcare.
